My wife and I cracked this bad boy during the Super Bowl because we were all Philly everything. R Five makes their wines with Cali (mostly Sonoma) fruit but Kieran operates a tasting room in Downingtown, PA (Philly Suburb).
2021 Sheppard’s Syrah, Sonoma – blue and black fruit, pepper, lavender, black olives. The Syrah is co-fermented with 10% viognier, so we will call this Kieran’s Cote Rotie.
We recently blind tasted this as part of a group “Kieran’s Judgement of Paris” against a $110 bottle of Cote Rotie, and Kieran’s wine won ($45). Truly a spectacular Syrah (especially one that was not made in the Rhône) and value for money.

R Five is great! Kieran makes some of the best Syrah’s that I have ever had.
Huge fan of R Five Wines!! Kieran’s 2016 Trois Cent Neuf Syrah is what got me into wine in the first place and I visit their tasting room often! I cracked their St Joe White Blend on the Super Bowl. He’s also the winemaker for Turks Head Wines if you haven’t tried it – different style but excellent wines. GO BIRDS!!
K Rob! Cool to see this wine in the sub. (Go Birds!)
