VERNON, CT — The Vernon Pet Pantry is putting out a special call for canned cat food.

Large size cans are “particularly appreciated,” pantry officials said.

“The people of Vernon have been incredibly generous and, while donations have slowed down a bit, the need for cat and dog food is increasing. Right now, canned cat food is in very short supply,” said Lisa Moody, one of the organizers of the recently established Vernon Pet Pantry.

The Vernon Pet Pantry has partnered with the Hockanum Valley Community Council and together they are taking in collections of both canned and dry dog and cat food and treats and making them available to needy pets and families.

HVCC is taking donations at its food bank at its 29 Naek Road headquarters in Vernon. Other drop-off locations include:

ShopRite in VernonDog Essentials on Route 83 in VernonPosh Pups, 56 Hyde Ave., VernonBoth the Rockville and Vernon Stop & Shops and the South Windsor Stop & ShopLeaps and Bones at Evergreen Walk in South WindsorThe Proper Pet (Fieldstone Commons) in TollandMellow Mutt on Parker Street in Manchester

“As we near Valentine’s Day it would be appreciated if a little extra love for hungry cats are kept in mind and canned cat food is dropped off at any of our collection locations,” Moody said.
