I recently invested in an air fryer. I was thinking how I cook a lot of my meals and guest-imate most of what I eat. A gram scale affordable, but I'm wondering if it's worth it? Does it help? If you guys have any recommendations please include thank you.

I included some meals i have made recently just for fun

if youre calorie counting: yes. it is an absolute game changer, there’s no really other way to properly weigh out your food. also if you’re a baker. otherwise, meh

When you cook for yourself and you’re trying to track calories, a scale that can measure grams is going to be your best tool. Put a container on it, take whatever you need out of the container when you cook, and weight it again at the end to see how much you’ve used over the course of the cooking and know exactly how many calories you’re cooking. Weigh every ingredient before you add it to your cooking. Weigh snacks as you portion them out. My #1 tool when I was calorie counting was a food scale. Not even a high quality one, just whatever $10 or $15 one I got at target or amazon or whatever.

    Yes, I’d recommend one

I have this one from Amazon: Ozeri Pronto Digital Multifunction Kitchen and Food Scale, All Silver, Compact

Sorry, I don’t know how to link it

Yep. You don’t need anything fancy, a $10 one from Amazon will do

  5. Cokezerowh0re

Yes. Cup and tablespoon measurements are so inaccurate

  6. Optimal_Pineapple646

I would say absolutely. I find it so much easier to get accurate calorie counts with a food scale

Thank you to everyone who replied I am buying one right away <3

Even if you just use it for oils or whatever, that can be helpful to make sure you’re not being heavier handed than anticipated.

I also find cooking by weight is easier than cooking by volume once you get used to it.

Instead of dirtying a bunch of measuring cups and spoons, everything can just be dumped into one bowl.

If I was to recommend one single item to help a person on a weight loss journey, it would be a food scale, no question.

Yes. I weigh almost everything I make at home.

You can’t accurately count without a scale, unless you only eat pre packaged foods

  12. Low-Ordinary-424

Yes! Or at least use measuring spoons and cups. I use both depending on how many calories are in a food.

You can get a pretty cheap one from target/Walmart- it is so worth it, you don’t realize how much you’re over/under estimating your serving sizes until you get one. Also you’ll feel more relief knowing you’ve weighed ur food out properly

  14. I wouldn’t have lost any weight without mine. You just need a regular food scale, not the tiny drug dealer kind. I think mine cost $15CAD. I use it several times a day.

  15. salemedusa

Yes especially if you are trying to lose a small amount of weight. I was able to lose 30lb from just estimating but I had to get a scale for the last few bc I was plateauing mainly from underestimating fruit calories

  16. Rough-Bat-5479

Yes. I use mine for every meal at home. Takes the guesswork out.

  17. mothmer256

Yes! I am always shocked how much more food I get when I measure by gram

  18. jadejazzkayla

Omg. Worth it? That is the very first thing that every person using CICO should have.

  19. grilsjustwannabclean

if you have had a history of ed/ed lite behaviors, then no. estimates work fine if you’re realistic and always estimate on the high end

  20. Guggenhymen32

Yes ! For tracking but it’s also great for creating recipes and baking

  21. Winterisnowcold

I did not buy one and lost 50 lbs (170–>120) calorie counting using measuring cups anyway. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary, but if you have the money, then why not?
