Just enjoyed one of my absolute favorite cabs for drinking NOW: the Shafer Hillside Select 2016. IYKYK, the 2016 vintage for Napa is 🤌🏻 and Shafer DELIVERED. This wine is the perfect “open for the hell of it” cab. We decanted briefly but it’s honestly not necessary. This is prime ready to drink finesse. Had it after dinner, so didn’t pair with food.

On the nose: cherry, black currant, cinnamon, vanilla. I want to make a candle of how this wine smells. It’s delightful.

On the palate: velvet tannins, tons of dark fruit, amazing influence from its 32 months in 100% new French oak.

I just absolutely love this wine. I discovered it from an article I read in Wine Enthusiast about killer wines from ‘16 and it continues to spark joy.

Purchased a case via K&L auction, coming out to $326/bottle, so a fucking steal if I do say so myself.

Happy Saturday!

Hillside Select is such a banger.

For I think their 1.5 is a fantastic value as well
