Yesterday when I came home from work, my husband surprised me by baking me a coffee cake for my birthday! I was so touched and I didn't expect it at all.
He works from home and promised to buy me some doughnuts. Turns out it was to throw me off the scent.
Coffee cake is my favourite and impossible to get where we live. He baked coffee flavoured cake, made a coffee ganache for the filling and made a coffee buttercream.
I just about cried.

Where do you live? Here in US when i hear coffee cake, it means a cake to be eaten with coffee, not one that is flavored with coffee. Here a coffee cake is usually a yellow cake with a cinnamon crumble. No icing or ganache. Yours sounds Devine!

It looks yummy! Happy belated birthday to you. I was in the hospital with pneumonia on my birthday last . My sweet husband made me a lemon pound cake. Sadly, each slice weighed 4.7 pounds. I forced myself to finish half of a piece, then told him I was too worn out to eat the rest. It really is the thought that counts tho.
