Short context on where i found this case of wine. I work at a junk hauling company when someone decided to throw it away sealed. I didn’t know any better and opened the case and drank a bottle unknowing its worth (I’m not a wine connoisseur) where would one go selling this valued wine? Its been stored in my garage in this case

I have no idea but that is a crazy story, how did it taste?

What, the actual, fuck… and 1982 of all years.

Find a wine auction house nearby you. My only concern would be what condition they’re in if someone willingly threw this away.

For minimum fuss I would take it to an independent wine merchant and see if they are interested. Or you could look for a wine auction and take your chances .

Good news: Chateau Lafite is one of the most famous producers in the world, and everyone here would literally kill to have stumbled upon that box.

Bad news: because of its poor provenance, you will have a hard time selling it (not here, per Reddit rules, to be clear) for anywhere near the “true value” you’d see online, because if you look up a 1982 Lafite you’ll see the auction prices for bottles of good provenance, however…

More good news: because it’s a case of half-century old Lafite, you can likely find someone with the palate and risk tolerance to embolden them enough to give you a fair sum for that case. Others will probably be able to give you good suggestions for brokers or others in the industry who have experience with this sort of thing.

Either way, congratulations and I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of whatever you decide to do with the wine!

  5. This smells way too good to be true but I’ll bite. The most interesting aspect to this is, what did you think of the wine, not knowing anything about what you were drinking?

  6. An auction house is where you will get the most money.

Ummm someone just tried to throw a case of wine away??? Let alone THAT particular wine?! Wow. Try looking into Acker auction house. They’ll charge a seller’s premium to you and inspect each bottle but those could still fetch a high number for someone willing to take a chance on them not being stored properly.

Well stored cases of 1982 lafite are tired. I trust a post drunken Taco Bell fart more than these bottles.

What did it taste like? Vinegar? Good enough to drink more?
