I just wanted to share some pictures and a few thoughts about a recent meal at Indienne in Chicago. This was my third visit. On the previous two occasions, I tried the vegetarian tasting menu, and this time opted for the vegan. Indienne is probably my favorite Chicago restaurant and I thought the vegan menu was wonderfully done.

The only course that didn’t totally work for me was the yogurt chaat, because the vegan yogurt wasn’t my favorite (it was chilled to hold its shape and almost a bit icy, which I imagine is down to the lower fat content). But other than that every course was fantastic. A particular highlight was the grilled avocado “kebab” in yellow pepper sauce. I’ve never had anything quite like it but it was delicious and impressive that the avocado kept a perfect, slightly firm texture despite being grilled. I also liked the plating and variety of plateware used.

It was really fun to see vegan cuisine executed at such a high level. I’d definitely give Indienne a hearty recommendation to anyone who happens to be in Chicago.

Thanks for sharing OP! I went in September to Indienne and had the regular menu. Your photos just reminded me of the lovely time I had with my spouse

OP, sorry if this is a dumb question but what is the “gun powder” listed on the menu? The pics look great!

Nice! We’re going next week and getting the meat option with wine pairings.

  5. Looks really good but an automatic 24% service charge is kind of crazy
