2019 Pichler-Krutzler Reid Loibenberg Gruner Veltliner
14%ABV
I can say I’ll always be a sucker for a good Gruner Veltliner, but this bottle exceeded my expectations. While grown in Wachau, this bottle notably eschews some of the regional nomenclature, but should be seen as being on the same quality level of any good Smaragd. All the classic Gruner notes showed up in full force, especially the white pepper finish, which seemed to last ages. Excellent citrus on the palate, balanced with delicate yeast and salinity. Although less intense on the nose, I would still consider this wine to be excellent. The 2019 is certainly ready to drink, and would be a delight to any Wachau fan!

I’m sure it’s a perspective thing, but that bottle neck looks comically long. Like one of those weird twisty tourist Chianti bottles.
