You will love making this easy dessert. It’s so much fun to make and enjoy and it’s my simple take on a traditional famous Middle eastern dessert called knafeh:
You will need:
10 oz. Akawi cheese or Panela cheese/ i used Akawi/ with no salt added.
1 package 16 oz. of shredded kataifi dough/ you can find in any middle eastern store in the frozen isle.
1/4 cup raw pistachio to garnish
226 g unsalted butter or ghee
1 cup of simple syrup( for the simple syrup simply mix 1 1/2 cup of sugar plus 1 cup of water plus 1 tbsp lemon juice) Let them come to a boil and then simmer for 2 minutes.
This amount of dough and cheese will make about 7 dessert skewers.
Slice the block of cheese into long 1/2 inch strips ( 1 package akawi cheese will make 7 strips)
Wrap the shredded kataifi around the skewer very tightly.
griddle on medium heat with brushing with a generous amount of butter.
Remove when golden on all sides and brush while hot with the hot simple syrup.
Garnish with finely chopped pistachios, dry edible roses and enjoy.
serve warm.
