For a minute I hoped we’d learned “don’t fucking get everyone else sick” was a durable lesson we all took from 2020. I guess I was naive.

You’re in hospo, unless you dead I expect to see tomorrow. /s

This is where a phone call works. I got messages like this when I was a kitchen manager/ head chef.
My calls goes like this.
Me: hey mate. How ya feeling. Chef/dishie/prep. Not great. Me, yup, what you thinking are you are the start or middle ? C/d/p not sure. Do you need anything ? C/d/p nah I should be good Me, sure ? When I had the flu I didn’t want anything but was happy when a mate dropped of sla care packet of food and water C/d/p nah I’m going to stay in bed. Me : ok I’ll chat you in in a couple of days.
Drop off care package anyway and text it on the doorstep.
Call in 2 days Me: how ya feeling C/d/p better but not great. Me need another care package. C/d/p nah but thanks for the package. Me: see you in 2 days? C/d/p sure.
Be aware though, I am aware if this happens more than once a year it’s going to get my attention. I have a rule of 3 call outs a year for illness that last more than 2 days seems about right.
Once a month put you into a bracket that you don’t get all the training I could give you.
But I would never put the stress of problem solving the staffing onto you, it’s what I get paid for.

Just ignore him. I’ve had this happen to me, he responded just like that and then told me “okay I’ll see you there” after I replied “no I will not be there.” Say no and then quit responding. I fucking hate assholes like this. Anytime any member of my staff called out, I’d just respond with “okay feel better keep me updated”
Like what else ya gonna do… call outs happen life goes on

Someone got hep at a local spot by me and the news was crawling waaaay far up that restaurant’s asshole.

Lmao, that is a very similar response I got when I got stabbed a few years back.

My GF got norovirus. I watched her waste away for a week on my couch. We were great about sanitizing and I never got it. But it looked truly awful, way worse than any flu or covid I’ve had. Just try not to get each other sick. And if you have to go in, make sure that you get the manager sick first.

Maybe he read it as 5 – 7 hours? Either way, he’s an idiota

At my old grocery job, COVID predictably went through several employees at once. It was around the time I went on a vacation (which my boss pitched a fit about before because god forbid the help take time to rest) and I started showing symptoms while on vacation. Still sick and testing positive when I got back, so the boss was mega pissed and single me out to demand I take a PCR test. It was $80 with my insurance and nobody else in the store had to take it. Then he “forgot” to put in my PTO so I got no pay the week I was gone. He also “forgot” to put in any PTO for other employees who were out sick so their checks took a hit. Didn’t understand why everyone was so mad at him.

You don’t need a Dr’s note, your word should be enough.
Remember, it’s a restaurant. You can go from one to the other all you want, they need you more than you need them.

I would copy paste that exact same text to your manager until he gets it

And miss the opportunity to vomit directly onto this shitstain? Cmon broski. You’re wasting the valuable opportunity to assert your dominance. Bonus points for maintaining eye contact while vomiting on them.

Be honest, say no and you’ll check in once you’re feeling better.

I once had a dishy call in to say his house was on fire, I told the head chef and he goes “… So he’s not coming in? What about tomorrow?”

Maybe go to his supervisor, send them the message and ask him if he’s hired an idiot. He’s a liability to the company.

Sometimes managers just want a simple, ‘Im sick, I’ll be back on Thursday’
The details of your illness are not as important as your absence.

The title is confusing
> Affluenza is a term used to describe the negative social and psychological effects of wealth and consumerism.
So you got rich and decided to quit or you got *influenza?
