Hi everyone, I recently got this Weber grill off of a free community page. It was listed as a gas grill. I am totally new at grilling. On close look it seems to be some alteration on a charcoal grill…

Is this grill safe to use as a charcoal grill or can it be used as a gas grill?

I have attached some picture.

  1. You can use anything as a gas grill but only once, and it may grill more things than you expected it to

It looks like a kettle used to belong on a Weber Performer (the one with the table and wheels) that had gas assist starter and added legs to it.
Yes, it’s still a kettle, disregard the gas assist and use charcoal.
    It’ll be fine.

So, this is a Performer Deluxe Kettle that has had legs put on it. Without seeing the inside, it’s hard to tell if the gas igniter was swapped out for a burner.

Now, I’ve actually used a kettle like this that had a burner from Go Anywhere mounted inside of it. It worked just fine as a gas grill.

If it’s just the igniter inside, you need to use charcoal.

That regulator is for a 20lbs propane tank, though. Just be aware of that. If there aren’t any leaks, you can certainly use it as a quick start igniter no problem. Just be sure to turn off the propane when you’re done.
