I've been incorporating plant based meals into my diet and have been experimenting with making my own shakes like Athlete's Gainer from IronVegan.

Here is what I have so far, but it tastes disgusting:

  1. Almond Milk (Unsweet vanilla) – 1 cup
  2. Water – 1/4 cup
  3. Organic Oats – 1/3 cup
  4. Pea Protein Powder – 0.7 scoop
  5. Quinoa Flakes – 2 tsp
  6. Oat Flour – 1 tsp
  7. Hemp Seeds – 1 tsp
  8. Flaxseeds – 1 tsp
  9. Cocoa Powder – 2 tsp

What am I missing that will make this taste good?

I don’t want to add a banana, peanut butter, dates, or anything that will add way too much sugar.

    Maybe replace pea protein powder with peanut powder? If it works for you. Some brands have less sugar than others. You might also try pure Monk fruit or stevia to sweeten. Be careful as too much of some sweeteners cause gas.

    Dates for sweeness? Vanilla? Cardamom and Turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefits? I agree, PB2 might be nice instead of chalky pea protein.
