Is this undercooked?

  1. The food looks fine. I’m more worried about the mangled fork.

Dark pink like shown in the photo is from seasoning or marinade and appears to have been fully cooked.

Undercooked poultry will have a distinct texture from cooked meat.

I always laugh when you smoke chicken and people think the pink ring means it isn’t cooked

Nothing in this picture would indicate that it is undercooked to me.

If it’s dark meat like the thigh or leg sometimes when you bake it will have a pinkish color

Better question: Why the hell are you eating chicken with ketchup?

  7. medicated_in_PHL

That looks like legs/thighs to me, in which case, fully cooked meat can still be pink/reddish.

  8. It looks overcooked as hell. No wonder you need the ketchup, gotta get that sawdust down your throat somehow

Most likely thigh meat (dark meat) which can look that color when close to the bone. Don’t worry it is perfectly safe to eat. There is a vein in the thigh that can make it look pink/ red too, but is fully cooked.

If anything, it looks overcooked. Probably tastes good, though.

Chicken looks ok, did you try to eat the fork or something?

Take a thermometer and check. Ok. All good . 165..
If you don’t have thermometer.. juices run clear with a squeeze.
From the picture.. you look ok.
Next time.. if you have a worry.. get a good temp.
Or.. push a finger in.. if it’s just for you or family.
If it’s crazy hot inside..no worries.
How they did it years ago at home.
I will get flack for this. I’m ready.

The touch , the taste of ketchup.. the culinary fabric of our American lives. If you were ever poor, you got ketchup packets and put it on everything dry or neutral tasting from the food shelf.
Lucky if you got a bottle of ketchup from the food shelf. So, lovely local fast food and convenience stores knew you had dry and expired food items.
Take the ketchup.. you need it. In this instance..
I just know.. ketchup had a visit with the chicken..
And they got along quite well.

The chicken is the only thing not concerning in this picture.

It’s overcooked, but not too terribly so. You should get yourself a meat thermometer! I can’t recommend Thermoworks enough.

The ThermoPop line of probe thermometers is professional quality, instant-read, and about 30 bucks last I checked. They are made in the US, too.

Underseasoned for sure. I honestly can’t tell if it’s undercooked just from this picture.

OH I GET IT NOW IT’S THE KETCHUP LMAO

  18. Pristine_Egg3831

My investment in a meat thermometer for $19 off Amazon has saved me from asking this question and also from explosive diarrhea 💩 🌡️
