Got a bottle of ‘03 Opus for my wedding this year and decided to do a vertical with my friend and her dad of 03,08,12. Well her dad decides to just drop in with a couple of half bottles he had opened the previous night with his friends.
Out of the all the Opus’, I enjoyed the 03 which felt the most left bank of the 3 with elegant notes of cassis, tobacco and a hint of mint. The 08 and 12 were much more representative of Napa cabs with big fruit and fairly soft tannins.
Out of the wines on the right I was most interested in the Mouton but tbh it felt mostly dead. Just really gravelly, forest, and mushroom but not much fruit left. The Latour was definitely the star of the night and just felt amazingly fresh and vibrant for a wine so old. It was my first time trying first growths and I was pretty damn impressed by their elegance and how they were able to hold on so long. Happy to answer questions about the other wines as well but this got a bit too long!

That 2007 DC V. Hill would be my pic. How was it holding up?
Amazing post
How were the Diamond Creek, Heitz, Mondavi TK, and Sassi? You seem to value Bordeaux more than new world stuff based on your notes; any other standouts? I feel like those 4 badasses deserve at least cursory notes
It’s an interesting combo- how’d you put this together? Old world, new world and a bit between??
How was the 87 Martha’s?
