Considering buying a charbroil performance grill with a “sear burner”. Debating between this one and one without it. Are these worth buying for or do they not make much difference?

I love mine but I admittedly went from a super shitty grill that never got hot enough to a Weber genesis with the sear burner. I use it all the time and love mine

I love IR sear burners. They give you a sear that you can’t get from regular burners unless you’re cooking on a flat surface. Note, the Weber “sear” burners are not true sear burners, They’re just extra burners to increase the heat. I’ve had a Spirit with the “sizzle zone” and it didn’t work very well. IR sear burners work differently.

If you don’t want to pay for a sear burner you can also just heat up a slab of flat steel or cast iron. I have GrillGrate (extruded aluminum) flat side up and they work great as well.

I have a Weber Spirit and I find it useless or rather not anything that properly preheating the grill won’t do.

I use my side infrared to heat my deep fryer pot

Don’t let it stop you from getting a great deal on a grill but don’t pay extra for it. 99% of the time you’d be better off with another burner instead. I have one, it makes a great space for food that got caught in a flare up to get indirect heat. Every once in a while I’ll use it on low when I fill the whole grill with food.

It won’t sear if any other burners are in use and even then it won’t sear as well as my charcoal grill or cast iron pan. I got mine on clearance and have no regrets.

I have one, and after 3 or 4 years I lit it for the first time yesterday, because I wanted to get the grill hotter after cleaning it. I HAD to have it, and the side burner, but I have never actually used either.

  7. I got a napolean just last year and I really like having one. When your reaching your desired internal temp and you wish you had more color, you can give that final blast.

I have a 20 yr old Napoleon with an IR sear burner & probably wouldn’t buy a gas grill without it. It did crap out after 10 yrs but they warrantied it. Also gets the grill up to cooking temp quicker.

I rented a vrbo that had a Denali with a sear burner. I enjoyed it but I wouldn’t pay out for one. I have a Traeger smoker and a Blackstone flat top, grill combo. I usually sous vide my steak then sear on the blackstone. I can get that thing to 700⁰ Fahrenheit in less than 10 minutes, even in below freezing temperatures.

Crossray infrared BBQ is awesome for steaks !

  11. I had a char-broil infrared grill, instead of just a 1/3 of the area being hot, the whole grill rack was, and it was awesome.
