Not sure how they managed make one slice of cake have 740 calories. You’d think that would be the amount of calories for the entire cake that they take this slice from. But I need an alternative that has less calories. I got this cake slice from Harris teeter. Do you guys know a good lemon cake that is similar to this and has less calories?

Would it be better for me to just make it myself?

  1. Not going to be exactly what you want because it isn’t cake! 🤣 I make lemon curd and stir it into cottage cheese.

Edit: even with the butter and yolks the calories come out to 250 and it’s an easy weigh to up protein and calcium!

  2. Not food, but if you’re just wanting the flavor, Tazo makes a tea called Glazed Lemon Loaf that is incredible and tastes just like a dessert.

    Hear me out:

    Lemon boxed cake mix
1 can Fresca (or diet sprite)

Mix it up. Bake (I use a Bundt pan but square works just as well) according to directions on box.

Make a lemon glaze – fresh lemon juice, powdered sugar and lemon zest (sometimes a tiny bit of salt too).

    Pour glaze on semi-cooled cake.

Calories vary based on size but it’s A LOT LESS than a regular slice of cake. Is it delicious? I mean, I think so but i might be in the minority. I do love lemon cake though so…

Liighg cream cheese, besti powdered monk fruit, and lemon water enhancer to make a lemon cream cheese frosting. Mix to taste & consistency desired.

Scotty’s Everyday Cupcake mix. Add lemon water enhancer or lemon extract to the batter.

Cupcake is 90 cals and the cream cheese frosting is whatever amount you put on. But 2 tbls is ≈ 60 cals

Are we not still doing the cake mix with diet soda hack?
You use low cal Cool Whip ™️ as the frosting, sometimes flavored with sugar free pudding.

Take one third of the cake slice for a reasonable 250 kcal dessert, and before you eat it maybe just freeze or throw the rest of it away (or give it to an unhoused or food insecure person, better yet). Good things are even better when small and moderate!

Walmart makes [lemon loaf slices ](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Marketside-Iced-Lemon-Sliced-Loaf-Cake-14-1-oz-8-Count/1700851596?classType=REGULAR&athbdg=L1200&from=/search)- they are 200 calories per slice. I have bought the chocolate before and weighed them and they are pretty spot on give or take a few grams per slice.

I’ve also tried this [mini bundt cake](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Freshness-Guaranteed-Lemon-Mini-Bundt-3-oz-Clamshell/11094610599?classType=REGULAR&from=/search) from Walmart. It is 300 cals.

Third option is Hostess[ Lemon Drizzle Baby Cakes](https://www.walmart.com/ip/HOSTESS-Baby-Bundts-Lemon-Drizzle-Cakes-8-Count-10-oz/720315402?classType=VARIANT&from=/search). They are 140 cals.

I’ve had all 3 of these and they all kick that cake craving. Just depends on what you want/what you can find! 🍋

Have you ever made a cake? 740 calories doesn’t surprise me in the least lol. If you make an actual cake, it will be the same or close.

  10. Sometimes you just need to eat the cake. There’s no shame!

It’s impossible to replicate without sacrificing quality. I have zero doubts on the calories. I bake for friends. That whole cake would have been 2 pounds of butter.

Trader Joe’s lemon bars. One small square is 80 calories.
