I got sent to replace an actuator on Mcdonaldds grill. The cook set up his eggs right next to me. He had the whole grill but decided to set up next to me and splash the shit out of my face and my head by slapping that stuff on the grill. This is the part of the job that you hear techs complaining about “getting stepped on, kicked, and burnt! Here’s where/when it happened followed by the chronological order of the steps I took to replace the part. Hey I’m already doing the work and taking pictures. I might as well entertain or educate people here. So temping to use profanity when describing that guy but I’m gonna take the high road in this post 😂

It’s a dick move for sure, but something tells me this was stupidity rather than malice.

Extra asshat if he didn’t feed you, F that guy

Why is there a pipe on the griddle? And what did you say to the cook?

  4. Fromthefunk

Hate to say this but did you point it out and say “hey bro your fucking eggs are burning Me” or did you just sit there and let his stupidity and inability to realize ruin this whole process for you 😭

So as a cook, his job dictates that eggs have to go there.

The problem is the manager should have made your access safe prior to you getting down there.

Ignore the pictures of what you were doing, take some additional pictures of your face/burns. Go to the doctor for a work related injury (they will charge McDonald’s insurance) and go get a free consultation from an employment/workers comp-focused attorney and get you that McDonald’s settlement money.

I appreciate you educating and entertaining us, but go see if you have a viable case against them while OSHA still exists.

on top of it you had work w those shitty, slippery gloves. I despise those things

That’s where the eggs are to be cooked. The folks there don’t change the way things are done. I know how to fix it and you know that the whole setup can be moved to the right, but the undertrained possibly-teenage worker that presses the button doesn’t know that.

I would say it was malicious. People working at McDonald’s aren’t the best trained to handle new people in their environment. Its all routine for them. Also, first rule of entering a kitchen, you have to be ready to get burnt or cut. I always tell people not to go to places you aren’t willing to deal with the hazards. Yes, we hope no one gets burned, etc… but it’s possible. Sucks you had a bad experience there. I would have spoken to the manager ahead of time so that we could minimize problems moving forward as well. A lot of people don’t communicate nowadays and just assume others notice them or are ok with the situation

Take longer. Be in There way. A little more. I tell my repair people I’m in your way tell me to move or get outta your way if needed. Seriously I’d rather go outside for 10 mins and let shit back up vs the repair itself taking hours longer or…. hurting the repair guy cause ya know that takes more time again.

    I like my repair guys.

I’ll never understand why techs come in the middle of service when they know the owners won’t allow us to slow down while something is being worked on.

Bring caution barriers to put around your work station for adequate safety measures

I would be putting up big-ass orange construction cones around me.

The Teflon sheet is what they use to cook eggs on the grill exclusively (and the temperature is lower) so the far.left one is the only one set up for eggs. It sucks but they have a job to do same as you and if they need to cook eggs they gotta cook eggs.

  14. Is that a garland? I used to be a Taylor tech and these are some of the reasons I quit. McDonald’s employees were always just pissed at my existence, and seemed to do petty shit like that all the time….

ETA at least they use actuators Taylor finally upgraded to them, before they used pneumatic system which were just the worst to work on.

“I have to turn that off to do my work”. Thanks.

That kitchen is disgusting. 🤢 you can always repay them with a call to a health inspector.

I literally had someone pass a basket of fries fresh out the fryer over my head when I was working on one of the Henny Penny deep fryers. Then she got upset when I got angry at her! It can still remember the feeling haha

  18. Im assuming this is McDonald’s, if so thats where they had to place the eggs bc the egg grill is set at a lower temp and the other grill platens are most likely set for burgers/sausage which would burn the eggs if they were used instead. That being said, its still a dick move. Next time if you have to work this close to the grill again, tell the manager they have to close the neareat platen so you can work safely.

Red danger tape. Put it far enough away cooks can’t get close to you. If they won’t allow it say it’s required safety barrier due to xyz. If working with live electrical it is required. Tell manager you will happily return at a later date and time to complete work if it is an issue.
