Acquired at Target(!) on closeout. Couldn’t resist grabbing a pair of them. Can’t have those old ’19s cluttering up the shelves, can we? Picture shows the second bottle along with the first bottle decanting.
Upon opening, one could be forgiven for mistaking this pinot for a Beaujolais! First taste showed raspberries, strawberries, and a bright acidity. After decanting, the wine glowed a lovely shade of cinnamon red with just the slightest bit of bricking at the rim. The strawberries had ripened and were joined by cola, coffee, and nuts. Subtle structure with soft tannins.

This would have been one of the final vintages of winemaker Steve Fennel from start to finish. He parted ways after the 2020 vintage and Trey Fletcher (formerly of Bien Nacido) came in and finished the 20’s. His wines are a notable step up imo.
This bottling would have been some of the younger vines they have at the Sanford and Rinconada vineyards if I’m not mistaken.
