I want to try grow Fresno peppers from a pepper purchased from my grocery store. Do I need to let the seeds dry before planting? Can I just plant the seeds now in soil and get a new plant?

Nope, just plant them and you’re good!

That said, you may not get the same Fresno pepper off the plant that grows from those seeds. Most grocery store produce is are F1 hybrids. Meaning they’re a cross. They look similar to the parent in the F1 generation, they can look, taste, etc differently after that generation. That’s a very simplified overview.

I would plant them. I do so with bell pepper seeds and it usually works out. If you don’t want to chance it though, you can purchase Fresno seeds to be sure of what you’re growing. 🙂

If you want to save them for a long period you can dry them. Or put them in some dirt now
