Anyway, this Thai spot from the Ugly Baby folks just opened. They describe the spot as not being exactly like the old location and that is true in terms of the menu but they still have some of the staples. Said Kua Kling/คั่วกลิ้ง (photos 1 and 6) or short ribs & southern curry paste for $38 was a particular highlight as it was a very good version. The Yum Pla Ka Pong/ยำปลากระป๋อง or preserved sardine salad for $22 (photos 2/7/8) was the surprise hit of the night being both well portioned, reasonably priced, and extremely tasty. If you want something more simple, The Pla Tod Nam Pla or fried branzino with marinated fish sauce for $38 was tasty as was the pretty tasty Panang made in this case with beef shank for $27. Last (and least) was the Jai Jeow Khoong Sub, a shrimp omelette for $25 which had good texture but not enough shrimp flavor. It was fine and it’s never been my favorite.
Anyway, the food here was really good. This was probably the best kua kling I’ve had in the city (and I’ve had plenty) and I would order that and the sardine salad in a heart beat. Even the dishes I thought were fine still had perfectly prepared meat/fish so it’s hard to complain (I just prefer the more heavily flavored dishes.) Would highly recommend this spot.
