Bought new Weber s435 from Home Depot and it came with these scratches in the stainless along the lines where the protective film was – almost looks etched in as the film was cut. It is on the hood and shelves.
I self assembled and really was not wanting to return it given how much work it took.

I don’t own that grill, but that in no way looks normal. It almost looks like a machine error. If you contact Weber they should just send you a replacement shelf and you wont have to disassemble the whole thing.
I think I had the same thing on mine but rubbed it off almost like it was an adhesive line or because it’s brushed metal it can show as scratches. But did you feel if it’s actually a scratch in the metal or more “raised” ?
It comes from the “please remove before assembly” plastic coating, spray a little goof off and it’ll disappear
