I’m a Benny head. It’s probably not great for my waistline, but it’s certainly been good for my soul. I’ve probably tried 80% of the Bennys worth trying in Toronto, and while I practically love them all, I do have my preferences… especially when combined with the potatoes they tend to come with. In a ***very*** particular order:
Pic 1: [**Chadwicks**](https://www.chadwicks.ca/) **(**268 Howland Ave.**):** Best Benny in the city, hands down. They allow a “Build your own benny” with a variety of options (most of which I’ve tried) but you’ll have to trust me on this — THE best combo is the beans and queso frito on their pillowy delicious, lightly charred egg bread. You’ll be tempted by the brisket. You’ll be seduced by the sausage. You must resist. Beans. Queso Frito. That is the combo for benny enlightenment. As fer the taters, they’re immaculately seasoned, soft and tender — almost like 25% mashed. I tend to eat far more of them then is reasonable or healthy, and would give them top grade.
Pic 2: [**Emma’s Country Kitchen**](https://www.emmascountrykitchen.com/) **(**810 St. Clair Avenue West**):** Pardon the less-than-flattering photo for this one (cursed fluorescent lighting) but this benny is a solid lock in the number 2 spot. They opt for a mousseline sauce, which is hollandaise with whipped cream folded in, for an extra layer of decadence. This tops their soft-poached-by-default eggs (I ask for mine medium), with your choice of sausage, bacon, griddled tomatos or arugula perched upon the star of the show — the buttermilk biscuit. The potatoes are delightful classic homefries, seasoned well with a slight herbacious kick. Absolutely delicious in-house hot sauce here too.

Try L’Avenue on Parliament.

Harbord house – eggs in purgatory, it’s an eggs benny with a bit of Worcestershire and bbq sauce on top of jalapeño cornbread. The cornbread is the craziest part of it as the crumble clumps together when the yolk hits it to make it actually perfect. That and the eggs Lorraine at Insomnia, plus they have the best breakfast potatoes in the city by far (gotta ask for them well done imo).

Dammit now I’m hungry!

I just came home from dirty food and I’m now in a food coma. The potatoes are insanely good and they give a very generous amount of bacon.

As a fellow benny-head, my faves are union on ossington and lady marmalade (though it’s been a while since I’ve been there, not a fan of lines)

I love eggs Benedict, and I want to do a nice brunch for my 30th birthday this year so this has given me some places to consider. Solkatt Cafe’s looks really good but unfortunately I will never get behind salad for brunch. Fruit salad? Great! Leafy greens? No thanks. I worked in a co working space that did different breakfasts and they had a make your own salad one morning and I was so disappointed.
My friends and I used to go to the Good Fork when it was located at Bloor and Jane and I really liked their eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and fresh dill. It has been years so I may be idealizing it but I liked the quantity of cream cheese on it (I don’t like a huge amount) and the dill made it taste less heavy.

Reign (Fairmont Hotel) – a few different variations, but the salmon is perfect treat to get the day going. Perhaps not as creative as others on the list but they execute a classic Benny very well

Four season restaurant (cafe boulud) always has the best breakfast imo

Shout out to Chew Chews on Carlton St. Classic diner, nothing fancy. Their classic benny has 4 eggs on an English muffin, and the most generously thick cut slices of peameal bacon I’ve come across in all of Toronto.

House on Parliament makes their Eggs Parliament with smoked mozzarella, a tomato jalapeno chutney and double smoked bacon all smothered in hollandaise sauce. It’s actually an outstanding combination. I prefer either half home fries and half salad. Would highly recommend!!!!!

Emma’s has been on the list of places to visit for a while. Glad to see the at when I go I know what to order

A few weeks ago I had the Fried Soft Shell Crab eggs benedict at Cluny’s in Distillery. Very tasty/good but around $32 or something.

I like Chadwick’s Benny (I love traditional) and the hot sauce is NO joke. Ask me how I know.

I love eggs benny so much I was able to guess 3/5 of these just by looking. I need a breakfast bud!

Just a couple of shoutouts to some places I’ve had good bennies at lately:
– Easy Restaurant – Hugs and Sarcasm – Gloria at the Great Hall – Sisters and Co

The Eggs Benedict at Figs on Parliament are very very good. They really nail the Hollandaise sauce.

This is the content I am here for!!! I love a good hollandaise (surprisingly easy to make, with patience). My favourite breakfast potatoes were Aunties and Uncles (RIP).

Nina’s in Kensington market is a solid new contender!
I’m gonna catch some chain downvote heat with this one, but Earl’s makes some nice bennies, including prawn and crabcake. If you get there before 11 they’re a few bucks off, plus some happy hour drink specials. Nice move in Yorkville before going to see a weekend matinee at the Varsity

L’Avenue
They used to be only in Montreal, but are now in Toronto. While I haven’t tried it here yet, the best eggs benny I had in my life was at their Montreal location.

Café Boulud $$$$
Sisters+ Co, but their potatoes are mediocre $$
Occasionally, Honest Weight makes a Lobster Benny during Lobster Season. It is phenomenal.
