Does the gnocchi have to be shaped, or can it be square? are homemade

    It doesnt need to be shaped. There are different pasta territories you can verge into but this looks like gnocchi to me

    As a rule, if the sauce is quite clingy anyway, I’ll do them exactly like yours. If the sauce is gonna be thinner, I’ll go to the effort of adding a bit of texture to hold the sauce a bit more.

    Homemade means less machine shaped, which is better. Hope it was tasty!

    There’s no rule with gnocchi shapes. Sometimes I use my gnocchi board, sometimes I use the back of a fork, sometimes I let them be, just like the ones you show here. They’re all delicious.

    If someone made me homemade gnocchi I sure wouldn’t get picky about the shape! Those look delicious.

    I’ve never shaped them. That’s a lot of finicky work.
    My mom has never shaped them. Neither of my Nonnas had ever shaped them. This looks looks about as proper and ‘rustic’ as it’s intended to be. Great job!
