WASHINGTON (WCAX) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cut two programs that provided $1 billion for schools and food banks around the country to buy food from local farmers.
The first program provided roughly $660 million for the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program.
The rest of the money was earmarked for the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program.
The Vermont Agency of Agriculture received money from the programs as recently as this past January. It’s unclear how much Vermont stands to lose from the cuts.
