Salmon is my favorite and while I’ve got the kitchen to myself I’m trying to cook something every day, I’m quite happy with how it turned out!

I’d eat it! Salmon is my favorite too!! I need to give it a try because I got a sushi-making kit for my bday over a year ago

It doesn’t look the prettiest but I’d still fuck it

Can’t wait for this to get 10 times more upvotes than what took me 4 hours to make

Not to be dramatic or anything but I don’t understand y’all’s standards

Doing it for the first time gave me a greater appreciation for the pros who make the nigiri and maki look so beautiful.

Yeah…lots of progress to be made here. One of my biggest recommendations is looking up how to prepare salmon for sashimi and getting a nice, sharp knife.

  6. I hope that salmon was decent cause tbh it doesn’t look good quality if it’s raw. Looks kinda pale

Not bad for first attempt. I’d say biggest focus is getting the rice to fish ratios correct, both for the rolls and for the nigiri. Also I’d recommend learning how to cure the fish and, if you didn’t, turning regular rice into sushi rice. Both super easy. I normally cure my salmon for just 10 mins with salt and I used to make my own sushi rice vinegar seasoning, but it was much easier to just get the premade stuff and pour some in to mix once the rice is done cooking.

Looks like you just need to make the rice better but you def have the idea! Everyone’s first rolls look kinda like this so don’t be discouraged to continue learning.

  9. Too much rice, and the fish looks a bit odd, but otherwise a good start!

It looks to me like you even learned a bit better rice proportion for your second roll. It’s surprising how little rice is needed, but it’s also tough to spread it thin enough if your rice isn’t the right consistency.

    was the salmon sushi-grade?

Not trying to be an asshole, it just isn’t clear from the photos

I didn’t see any advice requested.

You did great! How did it taste?

I wouldn’t eat that., the salmon isn’t sushi quality.

Gives you some appreciation for how a true sushi chef does it.
