I recognize that sushi! I’d get that from the commissary during my service days a lot. I remember their wasabi actually having some kick to it! Absolutely delicious! 🤤

Doesn’t sushi have raw fish? 🤔 I don’t see any raw fish at all (just imitation crab).

Whatever floats your sushi boat. As long as it’s tasty and you’re having a good time I’m all for it

Grocery store sushi is generally underrated — it helps take the edge off when you can’t afford sushi from a restaurant, and some of it is actually as good or better than the average restaurant imo. The biggest downside to me is cold rice, but even then some are way better than others (plus you can grab the newest made ones, ask for something custom, or let it come closer to room temp by waiting).
My favorite grocery store sushi is either from Winco or Whole Foods. They’re the only stores in town that make nigiri, and both of them season their rice better than most of the standalone restaurants in the state. Whole Foods’ wasabi is also some of the best illegitimate wasabi I’ve ever had. S&B Gold is my other favorite wasabi of that type, and it’s quite common at sushi restaurants.

As an ex-sushi chef, I can confirm that Safeway Sushi is decent. It’s better than or on par with 90% of restaurants.

Or $10 King Soopers sushi

Honestly, I’ve definitely seen worse. If that wasn’t too expensive that’s not bad

The guy that does the sushi at my local safeway went to school for sushi. Have I had better sushi?… Yes, but I have to say for safeway sushi, it’s wonderful. Also… the closet sushi, other than safeway to my place, is almost an hour away. Safeway is my only quick option. Enjoy!

Can you share the Safeway general location?

With sushi you have to start some where. Ok. Enjoy.

You’ve inspired me to check out the Safeway sushi counter more seriously.
Did you order those individually or was it pre-packed?

No, it is not.

Kroger/Albertsons sushi is mid at best. But in other words, it also means not bad. Gas station sushi and even many restaurants are BAD.
The best grocery store sushi I’ve had was from Whole Foods. I’m not a big fan of Whole Foods in general, but this is one of the things they do well, along with their double chocolate cookies.
