Two Santa Maria businesses were recognized as the Businesses of the Quarter for their service to the community and their positive impact on local customers, non-profit groups and employees.

The recognitions were handed out by the City at the Feb. 18 City Council meeting, in partnership with the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce. The partnership was created to give local businesses exposure, while reminding the community of unique, diverse and long-standing businesses in Santa Maria.

The Garden Mediterranean Restaurant & Cafe is located at 122 East Boone St. Owner Reda Kchik opened the restaurant in 2017, presently has 17 employees, and offers patrons a variety of dining options either indoors or outside on the heated and covered patio.

According to information from the City, The Garden also supports Marian Regional Medical Center and the Santa Maria Police Department with food donations.

Xtreme Electronics, located at 614 West Main St., was opened by owner Roger Galvan in September 2001. Galvan said he opened the store with $1,000 and a dream to serve Santa Maria with the largest selection in car audio.
