The “Election of the German Wine Queen 2020” will take place. The German Wine Institute (DWI), the city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße and the SWR have agreed on this in coordination with representatives of all German wine-growing regions.

The participants will compete against each other on September 25. The competition, which is organized by the German Wine Institute and is being carried out with a different concept due to the corona crisis, will be broadcast live by SWR television from 20:15 p.m.

Who will win the crown and succeed the current German Wine Queen Angelina Vogt?

Not all of the 13 wine-growing regions are sending candidates this year. The incumbent regional wine queens from Baden, Franconia, Middle Rhine, Nahe and Saale-Unstrut are extending their term of office by a year and are not taking part. In Saxony, the decision will be made in the next few days.

One wine princess will be sent from each of the Rheingau and the Moselle. Due to the reduced number of participants, there will be no preliminary decision this time, but rather an expert survey via live stream. The candidates will then meet directly in the final. The audience in the hall will probably have to be dispensed with due to the current hygiene regulations.

DWI Managing Director Monika Reule: “We are delighted that the majority of regions have decided to send a candidate and thus to hold an election for the German Wine Queen, albeit in a slightly modified form. Otherwise, the German wine industry would have had to manage without its important ambassadors for a year, because the three wine queens still in office had already signalled early on that they would not be available for another year in office.”

The task for the candidates remains the same: they must demonstrate their knowledge of wine – and once again convince with quick wit and charm. A jury of experts from the wine industry, politics and the media will be on site at the final and will decide who will win the election for the 72nd German Wine Queen.

SWR presenter Holger Wienpahl will once again host the live broadcast, which is traditionally produced in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
