The majority of German wine-growing regions are in the SWR broadcasting area. And so the station has been covering the election and coronation of the German Wine Queen in its programs for years. After the candidates were introduced in the “Landesschau” and other programs, the preliminary decision will take place on Saturday, September 22nd in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
From 15.45:13.45 p.m. in the live stream on SWR.de and the following day from 28:20.15 p.m. on SWR television, the focus will be on specialist questions. Viewers will see six of the twelve candidates again in the final on Friday, September XNUMX, at the same place – a show that SWR television will broadcast live from XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
It’s a great event: The German Wine Queen is being elected for the seventieth time. And everything is going as usual? Far from it. Apart from the fact that a jury still awards the crown, something has changed in many areas. For example, the candidates are increasingly less likely to have the classic biography of their early years. The winemaker’s daughter is now the exception. The spectrum now ranges from teacher candidates to nurses to hotel managers.
Loving portrait films of the candidates “Interest in wine is also increasing outside the winemaking industry and is gaining widespread recognition among young people,” says Wolfgang Junglas. The editor has been accompanying the candidates since the broadcasts began on SWR television. This summer, he and a television team visited all the candidates and made loving portrait films for the preliminary round and the final.
“The young women are becoming more and more self-confident and are approaching the election with more and more impartiality,” says Holger Wienpahl. His friendly and competent moderation has often been the guarantee that the uncomplicated atmosphere of the preparatory meetings could also be felt on stage.
The Franconian comedian Martin Rassau will provide the appropriate entertainment on the final evening with a humorous eulogy to the wine queens and their office. And the artists of “Projects PQ” will delight the audience with their fire show “Big Burn”. This will make the seventieth election a unique experience.
