FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Giving the gift of food this Christmas, The Rescue Mission is serving up meals for thousands next week.
The organization’s second-largest free holiday meal will be handed out to community members from noon to 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 at 404 East Washington Boulevard.
Warm meals will be provided as dine-in, carry-out or drive-thru options for individuals needing food just in time for Christmas.
This year, The Rescue Mission is planning to increase its meals from 4,000 to 5,000 amid challenges in the community.
“Homelessness and food insecurity are not new issues, but we have seen a rise throughout the year and expect it to continue with the ongoing cold weather and economic conditions. We recognize this increased need and are doing our best to help,” Pastor Thomas McArthur, president and CEO of The Rescue Mission, said.
Community members can receive a limit of three free meals per person during meal service.
“We are grateful to be able to open our doors to serve those in need this Christmas season,” McArthur said.
The meals are made possible through the help of 80 volunteers, food donations, monetary donations, the American Electric Power Foundation and several ministry partners.
