Checked out Crevette, the new seafood-focused spot from the folks behind Lords and Dame, and honestly, I found it a bit underwhelming.

Here’s what we had:

Tuna on Potato – The potato was too oily and overpowered the tuna. The tuna flavor barely came through.

Sicilian Crudo – This was good.

Oysters – Pretty average.

Poached Pink Shrimp, Aïoli & Calabrian Chili – Basically a shrimp cocktail with a side of Calabrian chili sauce. It was fine, but it’s just boiled shrimp dipped in sauce.

Red Shrimp & Uni Tartare – Decent, but the uni wasn’t great. Didn’t have that rich, creamy Japanese uni quality.

Florence Fennel, Mint & Pecorino Salad – Solid.
Fresh Tagliatelle with Cassopipa of Bay Scallops, Mussels & Clams – Just okay. The sauce didn’t stand out.

Butter Beans, Pistou & Grilled Squid – Interesting, but I wasn’t a fan of how the squid was cooked.

Octopus & Green Harissa Skewer – All you could taste was the harissa sauce. Way too overpowering.

Dessert – 10/10. The Meyer lemon sorbet and the Fior di Latte Ice Cream were GREAT.

I do really enjoy Dame, so I was pretty disappointed with this one. Curious if anyone else has been—was my experience a one-off, or did you feel the same?

    I visited as well, it’s a really great space and the menu sounded amazing but I do think the quality is not as high as Dame or Lords. Feeling like the team might not be able to keep up the same standard across 3 restaurants.

    I would go back because I think it seems like a fun spot for a larger group dinner. Food feels a bit more accessible to the average diner vs. dame/lords.

    Yeah, agreed was underwhelming to be honest. The raw selections were fine. I got the seafood rice, and prefer just normal Paella to be honest, which is far more filling. Dessert was fine, but the Fior Di Latte ice cream was great!

    I quite liked it, but agree with a lot of your notes: the tuna and potato sounds better than it is (the crispy potato is really good, but between that and the peppers, you can’t taste the tuna; some of the sauces, incl on the octopus skewer, were strong and overwhelmed what they were served on), and additionally the tagliatelle had a great sauce but the noodles were too al dente. Also agree the Sicilian crudo was surprisingly excellent — I rarely find crudo/sashimi that good (find them boring tbh) but the generous oil and salt really took this one up a level! I did like the uni and shrimp tartare (but I’m a sucker for anything uni and raw shrimp — see also: bridges’ uni and shrimp custard).

    Spanish tortilla with the crab was very good — comforting and hearty.

    Crevette is a really good place for going solo though (or trying a bunch of stuff even with one or more other people) — for solos, they have a relatively big bar (for nyc restaurants) to sit at, and most of the raw bar is portioned by piece (you can get the mussels and skewers by individual pieces, Sicilian sashimi comes in two different sizes) and the larger plates are actually pretty small so you could get a few raw bar items and and app and an entree size thing easily as one person with a decent appetite. (Obvi the $$$ add up, but where in nyc don’t they lol)

    Rhum cake is really good (basically a sticky toffee pudding with grilled pineapple pieces, though the pineapple was a bit hard to eat / not soft enough, but cake and sauce were rich and yum). That one is a huge portion though so don’t rec it solo (take some home. I did not/finished it all alone and then rolled myself home)

    Love Dame, also felt disappointed by Crevette. Haven’t tried Lord’s. I thought Crevette was forgettable but kept saying that it would be a great vibe in the summer for the light seafood dishes with a drink! That’s their strong point.

    I haven’t been yet but I am a big fan of Dame so this makes me a bit sad. They’ve only been open a month so do you think it’s still too new to make a call and they need to hit their groove (and warmer weather)?

    We went when they first opened, the potato and tuna was incredible when we had it, I’m not a huge crab fan but I loved the tortilla (my husband is the opposite, he loved the crab but thought the tortilla was too runny), shrimp was delicious if not particularly notable, fennel salad was great but no match for the Altro Paradiso one. For me the stand out dish was the aioli – such a simple dish that I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by, but it was perfect. I would go back for that alone.

    I actually went recently too and had a totally different experience — I really loved it! I’m also a big fan of Lords and Dame, so I was excited to check it out, and I thought Crevette was absolutely beautiful. Obviously, they’re still working out some kinks, but overall I was really happy with what we got.

    Here’s what we had:

    * **Chilled Mussel & Salsa Brava** — surprisingly delicious
    * **Red Shrimp & Uni Tartare**
    * **Sicilian Sashimi** — so good, love the homage to Swan Oyster Depot
    * **Merguez & Morcilla Skewer** — A+ blood sausage
    * **Octopus & Green Harissa Skewer** — so tasty and gave me Dame vibes
    * **Bluefin Tuna, Guindilla Pepper & Crispy Potato** — I was into it!
    * **Caesar Salad**
    * **Spanish Tortilla with Peekytoe Crab & Seaweed Butter** — the only thing I found a little underwhelming, but the crab on top was great
    * **Grilled Wild Mushrooms, Egg Yolk & Foie Gras** — I mean… can’t go wrong
    * **Seafood Rice with Saffron, Razor Clams & Lobster** — I didn’t want to order this and I was so wrong
    * **Pommes Frites**
    * **Fior di Latte Ice Cream, Milk Crumble & Poached Rhubarb** — their desserts are just unbeatable!!

    I really enjoyed it — the whole vibe felt special. I can’t wait to see how it evolves, and I hope everyone gives it a shot!

    I just had it last night and almost everything was excellent! I also wonder if some people’s experience is mixed from how recently they opened, but I bet after a few months they’ll find their groove.

  9. Was similarly disappointed. All of our dishes were extremely mid and seasoning with finishing salt was inconsistent. Dining room actually smelled fishy to boot.

    Agreed it’s a little underwhelming. It will probably be a one and done place for me. The best item we had was the dessert, but this is a seafood restaurant and dessert shouldn’t be its best item!

    Sashimi: no fault but the fish was not particularly good.

    Rock shrimp and basil & anchovy fritters: way too little Rock shrimp and too much batter.

    Octopus skewer: tender octopus with some nice chew and char, however the sauce was too heavy. I actually scraped it off after having one bite, and that saved this dish.

    Crab pasta: they put strong herbs in the filling, I didn’t taste any sweetness from the crab. I also don’t know why the base was tomato butter. Tomato doesn’t accompany crab pasta well.

    Dover sole: very nice. Second best dish right below the dessert. I wish they could cut back on the butter though.
