Casbah Cafe and Kitchen is the newest foodie addition to St Stephens Road after opening towards the end of December in what was Juniper.
The owner of Casbah, Kamal Tazerout, explained that he also ran Juniper – but he felt it was time to switch up the business.
Casbah has opened in the former Juniper coffee shop in St Stephens Road (Image: Denise Bradley) “We closed Juniper in the summer and started looking for a chef that could take the cafe in a different direction,” he said.

“They specialise in Mediterranean food, such as Shakshuka and Turkish eggs, so we decided to revamp the business and open under a new name.
“It is a bit different to what other cafes are offering in the city and the feedback so far has been lovely.
“We already have some regulars and we are starting to build our customer base.”
The interior has had a revamp (Image: Denise Bradley) The cafe serves brunch items all day, including British classics such as Eggs Benedict and a few Mediterranean options, and has a lunch menu featuring wraps and paninis, breads and dips and a range of salads.
Once the business has found its feet, there are plans to start opening in the evenings, serving hot dishes including some inspired by Mr Tazerout’s homeland, Algeria.

Charley Dawson, who works at the cafe, added: “We’re like a family and I’ve only been here for a couple of weeks.

Casbah Mediterranean Cafe and Kitchen is currently open from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
