WESH 2’s annual Share Your Christmas food and fund drive is back for its 39th year

WELL, TODAY IS A SPECIAL DAY FOR US HERE AT WESH TWO. IT IS THE 39TH YEAR OF OUR SHARE YOUR CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE. ALL OF THE MONEY AND FOOD COLLECTED WILL GO TO SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK TO HELP OUR NEIGHBORS STAY FED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON AND BEYOND. THIS IS A CHANCE FOR ME TO GIVE BACK TO SOMEBODY TO HELP OUT, AND IT’S HARD TO DRIVE PAST AND NOT HELP. EVERY LITTLE DONATION CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS. OUR NEWS TEAM IS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY COLLECTING FOOD AT SIX DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ACROSS CENTRAL FLORIDA FOR ANOTHER HOUR, SO THERE IS STILL TIME TO GIVE. SO THIS IS HOW WE GOT THIS ALL TOGETHER. THAT’S AWESOME. WE’VE WE’VE MET MEMBERS OF THE DIVINE NINE THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. WE’VE BEEN HERE SINCE 6:00 AND SERVICE IS A KEY PART OF THESE SORORITIES AND FRATERNITIES. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO KNOW THAT YOU ALL ARE HELPING PEOPLE RIGHT HERE IN BREVARD? ALL OF YOUR DONATIONS STAY IN THIS COUNTY. IT MEANS EVERYTHING. YOU KNOW, WE LIKE TO MAKE A DIRECT IMPACT ON THOSE THAT WE SERVE. EACH OF THESE BOXES IS MADE TO FEED A FAMILY OF FOUR FOR ABOUT A WEEK, AND WE SEND THESE OUT TO OUR MOBILE DISTRIBUTIONS TO ALL OF OUR PARTNER AGENCIES. SO THEY GET OUT IN THE COMMUNITY TOMORROW, THEY’RE GOING TO BE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY. RIGHT. BUT WE’RE FILLING THEM UP WITH LOTS OF HEALTHY, NUTRITIOUS, NONPERISHABLE FOOD. WESH 2’s annual December holiday tradition, Share Your Christmas, returns for its 39th straight year of helping those in our community dealing with hunger. This year has seen the need for food assistance remain high. It’s why we continue to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida to make a difference for families, seniors, veterans, and children who don’t have reliable access to food, especially around the holidays.For 2024, WESH 2 will mark Share Your Christmas with a one-day, six-county food drive to help our neighbors. For more than three decades, WESH 2 has worked to help Central Florida families who struggle to keep food in their homes. The circumstances are different from family to family, but the impact hunger has is the same: defeating.

Share Your Christmas aims to give those who are hungry some relief and let them know others care.

All the food we collect goes to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida which distributes the donated items via its network of more than 625 food pantries in seven local counties.

It’s important to know that all the food collected STAYS in the county where it’s donated. Share Your Christmas is truly neighbors helping neighbors.

Second Harvest Food Bank is looking for shelf-stable items that can fill up a family’s pantry for a week or more. Think about the things you have in your own kitchen cabinets and cupboards. Those helped by Second Harvest need all the same items we do.

To help you get started, check out this full list of items put together by Second Harvest Food Bank. You can also download this poster to place around your collection to help others know what to donate and when to drop it off.

If you’re a group, school and business planning a sizable donation requiring large or multiple vehicles to drop off, send us an email at syc@hearst.com and we’ll schedule your donation drop-off for one of our broadcast times.
