If someone on your gift list is a “foodie” … or a “drinkie,” why not consider imaginative gifts from the food vendors at the High Desert Farmers Market.
Throughout the summer, Dining Around dedicated one or two columns a month profiling those vendors. These columns are available on the High Desert Farmers Market website.
Read them again and you’ll find menus that truly offer “something for everyone.” Perhaps your gift shopping year will be a piece of regular, gluten free, keto or vegan cake.
Brew & Moo Coffee
Gabriel Santos came from Crestline in 2019 with the dream of serving his exceptional and refreshing coffees from his own trailer.
New Trend Custom Trailers handled the eye-catching wrap with that snappy logo, and his father-in-law helped him finish the inside.
In September 2022, Brews & Moo’s order window opened for the first time.
Offering everything from simple hot black coffee to gourmet concoctions, all of his coffee drinks start with a regular medium roast, which he outsources from a supplier in Los Angeles.
The basic menu is hot coffee, hot chocolate and iced teas in mango, strawberry and peach. Oat milk is available for a nominal charge.
The second menu touts specialty drinks like Good Morning Vietnam ─ orange juice with two shots of espresso; Cinnamon Roll ─ whipped cream cheese and cinnamon; The Valentine ─ chocolate and strawberry; and customer favorite, Cowabunga ─ chocolate and peanut butter.
Other specialties include matcha green tea and four flavors of lattes, hot or iced.
Custom orders are welcome.
Look for his trailer at sports venues. Book Brew & Moo for private events. Call (760) 884-2739 or check Instagram @brewandmoocoffee.
Capones
Anthony Ferretiz, vice president of Capones, “The BBQ You Can’t Refuse,” was born into a barbecue family.
A brief family brainstorm provided the answer to what business he should start. His dad’s barbecue secrets and techniques had been part of his life since he was six or seven, and after the business plan and the groundwork was completed, it was “time to grill.”
Capones serves traditional American and International cuisines from fresh ingredients.
The website is informative with a comprehensive menu, stunning food photographs and order options.
Sandwiches are numerous, like Pork on Pork ─ sliced pork loin with bacon and provolone cheese ─ Cali Tri Tip, Buffalo Blu Chicken, and The Mona Liza ─ slow roasted smoked turkey with all the trimmings.
More amazing menu sections are loaded fries, which are chili cheese fries with different toppings (loaded pastrami fries are a big hit) and tasty hot dogs covered with a tempting range of flavorful gourmet toppings ranging from mild to jalapeño cheddar ─ truly a meal in themselves
Gift options include Capones Marinade and BBQ sauces sold by the bottle.
Catering and delivery are available as are phone orders. Check www.caponesbbq.com, Instagram and Facebook (caponesBBQTruck), (760) 881-5078 or (909) 609-7897.
Native Farms
A Farmers Market food vendor of 12 years, Native Farms offers fresh pita bread, baked pita chips and lentil-based hummus and garlic spreads all made fresh daily with no preservatives, totally vegan and gluten free.
Their display is perfect for perusing and samples are available. If you’re hungry for a fresh snack while shopping at the Market, select pita chips (plain, garlic or lemon) and several different dips or spreads.
Native Farms is truly a “family-based business” because every generation is involved in some part of making and packaging these wonderful Mediterranean appetizers.
Sam Badran and his brother Ali travel to 25 locations every week with products, diet and nutritional information plus suggestions for flavor combinations. A visit to their canopy is both educational and enjoyable.
Fresh pita bread, perfect for pocket sandwiches, is a delicious “rip and dip” alternative to baked chips.
Their many hummus flavors include mild and traditional, pesto basil feta, garlic chive, cilantro lemon or spicy selections which get their kick from jalapeño, habanero or Thai chili in tasty combinations such as artichoke, avocado or black bean..
Spreads, also mild or spicy, include tapenades, Kalamata olive and Italian green olive and eggplant options like baba ganoush open the door to delightful and healthy Mediterranean foods.
Visit them on Instagram @native_farms or call (714) 467-7770. Talk to them about gift package ideas.
