LAPEER, MI – Pita Way, the Michigan-based “exciting, tasty and healthy Mediterranean food” restaurant celebrated its grand opening in downtown Lapeer on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

It marks the first location in Lapeer County, located at 1111 Summit Drive, next door to the AT&T store.

The restaurant prides itself on serving delicious, convenient, and healthy meals to its customers, and is the only Mediterranean restaurant in Lapeer.

“I just kept driving around, and the more locations I was looking at, Lapeer kept popping up as an option,” said Raad Kashat, owner of two other locations in Grand Blanc Township and Davison Township. “It’s a beautiful location.”

Kashat’s cousin, Brandon Bahoura, is the chain’s founder. Bahoura opened the first location in Clarkston in 2010 and has 20 locations overall, including 19 in Michigan and one in Tennessee.

“I just saw what he was doing and I saw the vision and knew it would work,” Kashat said. “I just love cooking and customer service. I knew exactly what I wanted to do in the future.”

Kashat, originally from Oak Park, has lived in the Davison area for 20 years.

He says the Grand Blanc Township location is the No. 1 location in Michigan, and believes good things are ahead in Lapeer.

Pita Way has a “choose it, fill it, finish it” model of choosing between a “sandweech,” a rolled-up sandwich on white pita bread; and a “quesopita,” a pita folded in half, toasted with cheese.

The most popular item is the Pita Way Bowl, consisting of yellow rice made out of saffron, white or dark meat, with the option of adding garlic, hummus, protein, fresh veggies, and homemade white sauce, homemade Chipotle, and homemade tahini or tabbouli.

Other options include chicken lemon rice soup, crushed lentil soup, and curry rice stew soup.

After the doors opened Wednesday, people quickly filled up the spot, with Kashat and his staff working behind the counters.

One customer, in passing, stated she had been waiting a long time for the opening.

Samples are available before a customer purchases a meal, Kashat said.

“I don’t want them to regret ordering anything,” he said. “I want our customers to have a great experience.”

Business hours are Monday-Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
