I attended with a friend and wanted to echo OP, it was a ‘great’ event for many reasons:
It was organized very well which make the entire experience so smooth. Tickets were $50 for one drink and a ticket for each restaurant (15+) to get your dumpling sample. Simple paper tear off sheet with names of each place and a token (beer or NA). You picked up your name envelope when you walk in. There was a max capacity because it was sold out.
Each restaurant had their own station and you hand them your tear of ticket and get your dumpling. Easy, no app no credit card, almost zero waiting. I think I waited like 2 minutes in a line at the most. Most places were ready to serve at start of event.
Everything that was supposed to be hot and ready, was hot and ready. Nobody wants a cold dumpling, unless that was the intent, which some of them were.
There were so many standouts, it was hard to choose one. We were able to sample all dumplings and get about 3-4 drinks in 90 minutes.
My top 5 (no particular order)- Each was good in different ways
For comparison, I went to the Logan square dumpling street fest this past Summer which was an absolute DISASTER. Never go to that. Waiting an hour to get your tickets and then waiting another hour in a line to get a small $5-8 plate of 2-3 dumplings.
I think the max capacity was key to the pleasant experience because I’ve been to similar events where it seems they sell unlimited tickets it’s absolutely packed. You wait a long time for each sample of food.
I would definitely go back and would love more events of this style of competitor again
