Edited to add on: If you use those to ask me to marry you I would say absolutely not!! I want to taste potatoes when I have mashed potatoes not sweet butter and I definately don't want garlic breath curling my nose hairs. You're worried about over salting them, I don't think you can over salt garlic!! Oh well, just my opinion…to each his or her own.
