Released just in time for the holiday party season, the new Onion Confit Swirls is a delicious mashup of two classic French appetizers. To create the new palmier concept, Trader Joe’s worked with a French producer who creates the flat, cookie-like pastries that resemble palm tree leaves. These pastries are then filled with a classic French onion confit, which is made from onions cooked low and slow in balsamic vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. The onion mixture and a little bit of Emmental cheese is then rolled inside the pastry dough and then baked to create the perfect palmier texture and a sweet-savory flavor.
