They have admittedly been sitting in my pantry awhile, I can get a bit nervous about textures sometimes. But the stuff y'all post on this sub makes me so hungry to try the wider world of canned fishies.

The kippers are nice. I have them for breakfast with eggs a lot. I bought 13 cans at Walmart today.

Take one of the mackerels, pop it open. Try a little piece straight out of the can. Say! That’s not half bad! Ok now you can make a sandwich: either mash it up with the can oil or pull the fillets out and use mayo like you would with tuna. Delicious!

    Welcome to the club!

I can’t speak to 3 of those 4 tins — but I enjoy those polar kippers as a part of my breakfast.

Blanched kale, 2 poached eggs, the kippers also poached (mostly to heat them up). Top with kimchi or hot sauce or whatever spices (& salt, if you’re not using a salty kimchi or a hot sauce) you’d like.

Private Selection mackerel is pretty good for the price

Btw, you can make mackerel or sardine salad too and it’s great

You’re in luck. Those mackerel cans are much like tuna. Kippers just need some Tabasco.

The Grilled Mackerel…take photos and let us know how good, or not so good they are…

The polar kipper snacks are good. I just ate them on a cracker with this hot sauce I get that is soy sauce, ginger, pear, and peppers.

Love kippers or mackerel on sweet potatoes topped with kimchi and capers. Breakfast lunch or dinner

The Polar Kippers are fish bacon! You can do a “BLT” sandwich with them amongst other things

I’ve been hitting those kippers hard!!
If you love lightly smoked they’re grrrrrreat!

i’ve only had the kippers out of all those but i like them a lot. on a sandwich with stoneground mustard, add lettuce/tomato if i have it handy

I had the seasons mackerel for lunch today! Delicious. If you can find the king Oscar’s it’s amazing too! Mackerel in general is great

Mackerel is a great substitute for tuna. Similar texture but arguably healthier . Put it on some bread or crackers with some toppings that you like. Or flake it up like tuna salad.

  17. I drain and eat the PS mackerel filets on a sandwich with toasted bread, mayo, lettuce, and a good hot sauce (currently using secret aardvark smoky).

Start with the kipper. Only one here that is not smoked.

If you like tuna salad I recommend using a can of tuna and a can of sardines all mixed up to make your next batch. Adds a lot of good healthy fats and the tuna helps keep the price down.
