My phone tried to auto complete the title with casserole , I am appalled! Anyway, that tragedy aside I've been wanting to make a vegetarian Tater Tot Hotdish for years now. Which is ridiculous it's not that hard just replace the beef with a veggie substitute (in my case Gardein Be'f. Which was so good but that's a whole other discussion). Today I finally did it! It was delicious and worth the wait.

Looks great! Do you have a link to the recipie?
I’ve never heard of this dish. Could you share your recipe?
I commend you for this work of beauty
Is this fork in the kitchen?
I’m not from the Midwest; is this structurally similar to a shepherd’s pie, but with tots on top instead of mashed potatoes? It looks delicious!
Gardein beefless ground is the best fr tho. I use it in my red chile enchiladas, speaking of regional casserole-like dishes, and it’s 🤌
So it’s like shepherd’s pie but with tater tots and cheese? Looks like something I’d like to make for the fam.
Recipe please
Thanks everyone for the love! As for the recipe everyone does it differently and I think I’ll make changes to this version as well.
On the stove I browned my Be’f and then added a bag of frozen veggies. Next I added in a can of cream of mushroom soup. Then filled the can with water and added that in and stirred. I seasoned it with salt, pepper, and chile powder (chile powder is not a normal ingredient but I like breaking rules :)). I then put the mixture in a pan and topped it with tater tots. I put it in the oven at 325 for twentyish minutes then I topped it with cheese and broiled it for five.
Changes I would make: more soup and more green beans. I also would add mushrooms and onions. I think a seasoning salt like lowerys would also be a good addition. This is scandalous here but I would add in more chile powder and maybe some paprika. It could’ve been in the oven a touch longer before broiling. Another thought for next time more layers/smaller pan/more of each ingredients so it’s not so flat. I wanted heftier bites!
