Although German Pinot Noirs have been increasing their quality over the past 20-30 years drastically, they still remain very affordable in comparison to anything from the Bourgogne. The estate of Meyer-Näkel which was previously led by Werner Näkel is now in the hands of his daughters Maike and Dörte Näkel who are taking care of the estate exceptionally well. The whole estate fell victim to the Ahr Valley flood in 2021, leaving behind utter destruction. Thus, the estate had to be rebuild.
The wine shines beautiful in the glass with a beautiful translucent ruby colour. It has hints of pepper, peppery spices, leather, a bit of an animalistic note that incorporates with some air and strong hints of bright, clear singing cherry along with some raspberries. Just beautiful, one of the best Pinot Noirs GGs I’ve had.

Nice to see more German Pinots on r/wine.
I recently moved to Germany and have enjoyed exploring the category.
I find Meyer Näkel uses too much oak. In the Ahr valley Adeneuer, Stodden, Kreuzberg and Bertram Baltes are producers I’d rather seek out.
