Used my Coravin to extract about 1/4 of each of these bottles just shy of two weeks ago for a Cabernet Sauvignon tasting I hosted. Came back to them last night and one after another, they were DEAD. 😵 Bitter sour messes. I don’t need help or sympathy, just needed to tell friends who understand the pain.

I just finished pouring them out.

THANK YOU! Always hear nothing but great things about Coravin. Keep weighing purchases for one.

That’s a shame, Feather is a damn good wine!

Do you clean your Coravin? Ultimately, that’s the one thing that’ll spoil them.

Maybe two weeks is too long. When I use my Coravin I drink the bottle within days. I do think it should last weeks but just saying…

My Coravin was one of my best wine investments. I love it; however, I do run into a couple issues with it (that are all on me, not the device).

    1. I seem to only get bottles that should be popped, either because I don’t wanna use my Coravin on something cheap, or it’s a great bottle meant to be shared.

    2. When I do use it on something, I almost always like the wine so much that I end up popping in within the next couple days anyway.

Part of this is that I just can’t bring myself to trust a really nice bottle to hold up, despite their claims of it lasting months or even years. I might try it on something cheap sometime just to see how it holds up. I’ve tried it on a handful of bottles over the course of months, though, and those experiences were great.

That’s weird to hear. A friend of mine uses a Coravin regularly and has a lot of wines in great shape for a long time each. From daily drivers to nice ones. No real failures besides his technique, which he admits he had to practice.

I had the 2020 feather, what a fantastic bottle and a beautiful vineyard

My husband found the wines were good for about a month or so but even then he said he could notice some degradation, and much more in whites. He ended up giving me his when were still dating and I thought he was just being kind since we both liked wines. I didn’t learn until later that he was passing it off to me because he didn’t find it useful. We still have it but we never use it. If we save a bottle we use Repour and it gets finished within a week.

You got any notes on that Feather, though? I’ve got it on my shelf for sale and admittedly know 0 about it

Did you get a second opinion, and are you sure you don’t have covid?

That’s an unusually high failure rate for a very standard amount of time post-open.

My wife and I really enjoy the coravin — we keep ~5-8 bottles open at any one time so we can sample different wines and match them with food. We usually don’t drink more than a glass on a weeknight, so it’s great. Also really fun to do home tastings and try 3 or 4 wines all at once. Haven’t had a dead bottle yet, but we’ve only been using it for 3 months.

  12. I usually try to finish a coravined bottle in a week. I also recommend that you buy the thinner needle from the website. It helps wines last a bit longer due to lower oxygen leakage into the bottle. YMMV.

I sell wine and use a corvine on a weekly basis. After using the Coravine, store the bottles on their side or upside down (easiest option short term in my wine bag). I’ve had bottles that were coravined 6+ months ago hold up doing this

Which model of coravin? The needle one or the plastic cap one?

When I first got a Coravin I really liked it, these days I’m very mixed on it and use it as little as possible.

We have one at work that I use weekly. Those bottles get finished in a few days. Few if any ever have issues. Both my personal one and the one at work get cleaned religiously. But for some reason I’ve had bad luck at home. The “best by” date ranges wildly. Even with high fill levels.

I have had bottles last 6 weeks (prime use) and other bottles not make it 6 days. I can’t figure out a rhyme or reason. Cork type, age, varietal, fill level, etc. There is no pattern. My only guess is that the inert gas has to be escaping and air gets in.

I have tried both the 2020 & 2019 Echo. Really enjoyed them.

Remember – I try to tell friends in the industry, – you’re poking a big hole in the cork. If you have a second fridge, store in there upside down, so you have wine in contact with the cork. No oxidation if you can fit a rotating 12 pack case in that puppy? Bob’s your uncle.
