A lavish new restaurant is taking over the unit previously occupied by Glynn Purnell’s Bistro and Ginger’s Bar, with CGI images revealing grand plans for the vacant plot.
The Michelin-starred chef confirmed the permanent closure of his popular Newhall Street bar in September 2021 after letting the lease run down during the Covid pandemic.
Plans have now been revealed for a new Mediterranean restaurant and bar with a ‘regal’ feel to open in its place. Regina’s is expected to open at the end of January 2025 by the team behind Noel’s on the Waterfront.

Located just off of Colmore Row, opposite Asha’s, the luxury venue will serve modern Mediterranean cuisine alongside cocktails, wines, beers and more.
Bosses say the name of the new restaurant, meaning ‘queen’ in Latin, embodies their mission to offer up a ‘regal dining experience’ to diners in the city centre.

Brummies have been told to expect ‘grandeur, elegance and sophistication’ from the new site, plus food made using the ‘finest ingredients’ that ‘transports guests to sun-kissed shores with every bite’.
CGI images offer a sneak preview of the décor. The designs show a stylish interior with high-end furnishings and a show-stopping bar, with tables positioned beneath a statement red rose ceiling sculpture.
A few doors down the street, another new bar is opening in the old Florence pub. Newhall Street Tavern will feature digital shuffle boards in a ‘proper pub’-style environment, alongside a menu of thin crust pizzas.
