I do not have a kamado but have been waiting for a sale to buy a Big Joe 1. Wondering how well people familiar with them think this would clean up and what things do I need to look for to determine its in good condition. Would love to get one for 200 bucks if its functional and could polish it up a bit

$200 is a good price. Check to make sure the fire brick stuff is in good shape. Transport carefully. The seal grate can be replaced if need be. You can burn clean that out super easy.

As long as the ceramic is not cracked, everything else is replaceable.

If that’s the case, this is a fantastic deal

A little barkeepers friend on the outside will shine that right up

Only worth it if you can inspect the ceramic yourself. If the ceramic is good, 200 is a killer price

You can get the ceramic replaced through KJ. Good deal

If anything is cracked on the red part, it’s just a matter of time until it falls apart. Cracked for $200, maybe, of all the insides were still good. It would still work until it fell apart. Looks ok in the pic. You can rub the soot off with wet newspaper and wood ashes.

Make sure they didn’t use lighting fluid in it… It soaks into the clay and… Somebody told me that you can’t burn that off… That’s a great tool… I have Primo Kamodo and I used the hell out of it. Inspect it very well and transport it like a baby.

Check it for cracks, if so pass. Make sure it doesn’t have any petroleum indicators, if so pass. If you’re good, hell yeah. Kamados are tough, clean it up and get a new seal and you could cook on this daily for the next 20 years.

Like u/Stalaktitas said, transport like a baby. One thing they don’t like is being moved. If it were me, I’d remove the dome before putting it in a truck.
