Might technically be breaking the rules since this is made at home but I am doing R&D for specials at a restaurant.

Roasted coconut sticky rice in a hollowed out and oven tempered coconut shell, with marinated grilled vegetables (enoki, leeks, carrots, daikon) and beef short ribs with a chili oil BBQ sauce.

As long as you don’t have to hold that hollow hoof when eating it’s acceptable

Personally I think its a fitting „bowl“ and looks absolutely amazing

  3. It looks awesome, and I bet it’s delicious; but what if they want to cut it up?

The time for debate has ended. Kindly hand over the deliciousness.

I’d accept that, it looks delicious. It makes me wish I still ate meat!

Maybe put the shell in a bowl, at least. as is, yeah that would be annoying to eat from. Generally, stick to the “nothing inedible goes on the plate” rule and youll be golden. I think the coconut shell is forgivable because it’s cocount rice but like, is it necessary? does it add anything?

Holy crap that looks so good I want to just stick my face in it lol

  8. Could you eat this one-handed in this bowl, as it would be served? I’m just thinking of diners with mobility issues.

Well you got the subreddit thing out of the way so I guess just run it

Have the pros at r/chefit take a look at it. They  give solid advice on plating.

  11. Why not put it in a bowl? Like, what is in your hand…in a bowl.

What is lost by giving people a plate (bowl)?

    Looks amazing!

I would still put it in a bowl or plate with the coconut just for stability/the option to scoop it out.

What’s that white stuff on top?

If you make it a special I hope it goes well!

I’m into the journey, just serve it with a plate underneath. If i want to flip it over i can, i just dont want to get tired of chasing the shell around the table.

Since it’s coconut rice it’s technically related so it makes more sense than someone several mac n cheese in a coconut shell.

I’d say a better research would be to give it to someone unrelated and ask them to eat out of it. If they have any issue with the shape of the bowl such as it tipping over or having trouble scooping some out, it’s an inconvience to the customer.

Try it out over a white table cloth and see how it goes for you
