Blue’s and greys will be the death of me – blue is always either too turquoise or gritty, and greys somehow never get the right tint with cream cheese frosting..

Did you let your colors sit and darken before using them? Also I’ve read that people warm up a small bit of buttercream to darken the color .

maybe try taking a step away from this for a while, so it’s not at the forefront of your mind! it seems like this is one of those situations where you’ve just been staring at a project for so long that it kinda starts distorting in your mind and you think it looks bad.
as a pokemon fan, I am absolutely in love with this, and if I received something like this I think I’d start crying tears of joy. genuinely, this is so so beautiful and the colors are absolutely spot on. I’m newish to baking cakes and experimenting with buttercreams and stuff, and coloring them has been my main gripe and probably my least favorite to learn lol, so the fact that you were able to get your colors to match so beautifully in such a difficult medium, AND you were able to pipe/paint it on so nicely,,,I’m utterly speechless in the best way possible. you’ve got such skill and expertise, and this cake exhibits those qualities tenfold.
so with peace and love, please take some time away from this piece to regroup and recenter, and revisit this sometime later to see just how proud you should be of your work!!!

Honestly I think it looks great! The only added thing I would do is use warm water on a small brush to soften the edges

This is amazing as is! Kudos to you for the time and effort. This is easily identifiable and I’m sure the color variation only bugged you. Gotta apply a little color theory to fix the color issues you’re having. Butter is usually yellow, hence the turquoise-y blues. You can add the teeniest amount of purple to neutralize the yellow or swap your butter for shortening which may affect the flavor. Grays made from combining black and white tend to be greenish or purplish, adding the other color will help make a true gray. (Purplish gray- add green). Great work tho
