It’s sanitary and has raised edges, I wouldn’t complain
Quarter sheets as flatware is an interesting idea

Plates don’t have to be round

I actually think trays are superior to plates.

I kind of hate the “rimmed baking pans” as plates but nobody asked me and the movement has become very popular.

A place near me serves their loaded nachos this way and I prefer it. Prevents spillage of the toppings so they stay loaded. Idk how usefil it for a sandwich and fries but am not mad at it

i guess this means OP has never gone out for BBQ, i think almost all bbq places do this

My sincere congratulations on being served perfect french fries. That’s exactly how fries should be cooked, but they so rarely are.

I wouldn’t have an issue with this, plus there’s paper between the food and tray.

Nope. It doesn’t follow the narrowest definition of plate, sure, but it fulfills all the same functions and is in fact much more suitable for this meal than classic stoneware would be.

A local brewery in my town uses these in place of plates.
It makes sense, less risk of damage if they get dropped, lightweight, easier to stack and store. I say this is an acceptable alternative.
