Mediterranean Guys, a southern European-style carryout restaurant, opened for business at 444 High St. Friday.
The restaurant offers a variety of gyros and shawarma, as well as build-your-own lettuce or rice bowls, falafels, hummus appetizers and more. Mediterranean Guys also offers “Group Meals” for catering, including its “Mediterranean Feast” or sandwich spread.
The business is owned and operated by brothers Mohemed and Ash Nabli, who moved to Morgantown in 2021 from Tunisia.
“He [Mohmed] was going back from a road trip from the West Coast, and while he was going back to Maryland, he stopped looking for Starbucks coffee, and he ended up taking the exit downtown. It took him to the Starbucks in Suncrest, and he ended up seeing Morgantown,” Nabli said. “He liked it, like a small village, all natural. It kind of reminds us of Switzerland.”
The Nabli family owned a pizzeria in Tunisia until 2007. Ash Nabli said he worked across the country in the hospitality business before opening Mediterranean Guys.

Nabli said the original plan for Mediterranean Guys was to open a food truck. Instead, the family began renting the space from Buddy’s Bud & Co. six months ago.
“We were hanging out here, and thinking, ‘Where can we park the trailer?’ And then, we saw the patio, and we walked in here to Nick and asked him to rent it,” Nabli said.
Currently, Nabli and his brother are the sole cooks at Mediterranean Guys and family friends operate the cash register. Mediterranean Guys is not currently hiring but is open to future expansion through door-dash and franchising.
Nabli said he puts his profits back into his business in hopes of perfecting the restaurant.
“First thing I believe, always to invest,” Nabli said. “We try to take it step-by-step, that way we produce a perfect product.”
Nabli said the community has responded “positively” to the opening and looks forward to continuing serving residents.
“Everybody can come to the restaurant, anywhere from any place. Bring your heart and come here, and we’ll make sure we give you the best service and make you happy,” Nabli said. “That’s the most important for me.”
Mediterranean Guys is open from 11 a.m.- 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m.- 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. For more information on Mediterranean Guys, visit its Instagram.
