SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) – More than 100 diners and employees avoided serious injuries when the ceiling collapsed in the center of the dining room at Longhorn Steakhouse Friday night.

Employees say they began quickly moving patrons when they saw ceiling tiles begin to fall.

That’s when a “significant” portion of the ceiling came collapsing down.

One person was checked on the scene but denied a trip to the hospital.

South Portland’s fire chief says roughly 150 people were in the restaurant at the time.

There is no word yet on what exactly caused the collapse.

The restaurant will remain closed indefinitely.
