In response to a post I commented on yesterday. It works incredibly well.

Yeah, it works, but why do I care? I just leave the jagged edge of the tape out after I tear it apart with my thumb and forefinger. It’s not hurting anything, and it’s not like these labels are on containers that last more than a week anyway. Why not just tear the tape and get on with my day?

Putting your finger down on the tape role works too.

    Inb4 the “tape cutters” arrive.

No seriously. They terrify me, I’m leaving before they get here.

  4. NakedScrub

Bro I did this all day today. I was so stoked to show everyone too. Hahahaha

  5. Exotic_Drive8893

I would just fold over the edge. Unless you are not reusing these containers dish probably hates you a little bit.

Finally I’m free from the burden of untearable masking tape

Tried this today, it sucks. Just cut it with your knife. Ain’t got no chill. Soft hand shit.

Ironicall, the video didn’t work. Someone describe it please

I’ll just use electrician/insulated tape until I die, easily the best thing to label stuff in the kitchen for me.

    Real talk.

This has been a savior for multiple issues.

Health code deducts CRITICAL points from your business if you have tape residue left on containers. To combat this we don’t leave labels on a vessel if it’s exposed to heat. But also, we use tape dispensers because we’re a butcher. I’ll pull a hair extra length and then fold it slightly under itself, exposing a tab to make the label ez pull off! Thus we avoid tape residue and tearing all together.

I’m still coping with the tiny flags on all of our fish boxes… but damn is it satisfying to pull off the label. We call it a “Courtesy tab.”

Man, some of y’all got nothing but free time in your kitchens, huh?

All my sharpies have usually broken the … whatever you call that… the clothe grabber?

  13. This is going to get buried, but I had this special exec one time. One of the hills he wanted to die on was that the tape labels needed to be cut woth a knife or razor. no tearing, no perforated edge. cut. i really hope chef Massey is doing well, somewhere in Florida.

20 some odd years doing this, and in a couple of Reddit posts, I’ve learned something new I wish I’d learned long ago. Wth.

  15. funthebunison

Just put that whole thing on there. It’s gonna get thrown out anyway.

  16. medium-rare-steaks

it looks like you tore it, which doesnt fly in our kitchen

  17. PinkPoncho3

bold of you to assume i can actually find a sharpie

  18. Metalface559

Head chef and I (kitchen lead) definitely have undiagnosed OCD

  19. fefvrisketa

Its called a *Sharpie* for a reason.
~someone who uses one as a tape cutter.

K, Homie, I’ve worked in construction and there are sometimes these tips and tricks that can make something easier, better and make your life both of those.

This is just dumb. So what if it’s not torn perfectly at the edge? Do you have OCD or some shit?
